A GYROTONIC session uses a system of weighted pulleys, rotating handles, and an adjustable tower to guide your spine and joints through their full three-dimensional range: spiraling, arching, decompressing, reaching into the places that have been closed off for months or years. The apparatus provides exactly the right amount of resistance at exactly the right angle so your joints can awaken to new ranges without compensating to get there.

This is where my work diverges from choreography-based teaching. I'm not cueing you through a sequence and watching whether you hit the shapes. I'm watching how your joints are actually moving — where you're recruiting from, where you're bracing, where the movement stops before it should. I'm looking at the biomechanics underneath the movement, and adjusting the work in real time based on what I find.

It feels like a movement meditation meets internal massage.


A GYROTONIC SESSION

Cultivating inner strength and full-body connection.

You'll move through various exercises, with an emphasis on breath and biomechanics to help you connect to and control your centers of gravity.

We'll first learn how to actively decompress the spine, which will lead us into practicing the spinal motions: extension (arch), flexion (curl), lateral flexion (side-bending), and spiraling. 

From there, the world is our oyster. We will pay attention to what the body needs, where a connection has been lost, and what might be contributing to pain and discomfort. We'll become detectives, and reteach your body how to move with less effort.

ABOUT THE GYROTONIC PROGRESSIONS

A progressive movement system to retrain healthier movement.

The GYROTONIC® Expansion System is progressive, meaning the work builds on itself deliberately. In each session, you'll develop the capacity to add more complexity to your movement. This is by design, so that compensations can be addressed layer by layer.

The system works through the body region by region, then teaches those regions to work together.

Spine

ARCH + Curl Series

The foundation. Establishing spinal articulation, breath rhythm, and the decompression that makes everything else possible.

Shoulder

Upper Body

Loading the shoulder girdle and arms through range. Developing the capacity to be strong where you are open.

Wrist/Hand

Upper Body

Wrist mobility, elbow strength, and the spiraling patterns that connect the shoulder to the hand.

Hamstrings

POsterior chain

Loading the posterior chain in its longest position. Building the strength to support a long, decompressed spine.

WORK WITH ME

A biomechanics-first assessment.

What I do is different in two specific ways. First, the studio is entirely private. It's just you and me. There is no class to keep up with, no one watching you figure something out, no performance. Your nervous system, the same one that needs to feel safe before it will release, gets to actually relax  (which is the only condition under which real change happens).

Second, I'm trained in biomechanics, not just movement. I'm not just teaching you choreography. I'm assessing what your joints are actually doing and building your practice around what they specifically need: which ranges are closed, where you're compensating, and what the tissue needs to become organized. The apparatus becomes a tool for that inquiry, not a sequence to get through.

ROLFING® STRUCTURAL INTEGRATION

Rolfing creates the possibility. Movement makes it yours.

The combination of Rolfing and GYROTONIC® practice is not simply additive;  it is multiplicative. Rolfing opens what the movement practice then allows you to inhabit.  Each modality makes the other more effective than either would be alone.

Practically, this looks like a Rolfing series, ten sessions working through your structure in a deliberate sequence, running alongside your GYROTONIC® practice.
